The Daisy BB gun company coined the name “Airsoft” to market a newly created BB rifle using plastic projectiles rather than their usual metal ones. Therefore, these plastic BB’s are safer to shoot opposing players.
Sport
The evolution of this game has led to the development of the sophisticated and accurate guns, as well as the safer BB’s, that define the sport in its current, advanced state.
Simulation
Airsoft involves engaging in a military simulation sport where, consequently, participants actively wield authentic military-style weapons that serve as full-scale replicas of real-world firearms. In contrast to paintball, on the other hand, these players utilize 6mm round BBs crafted from durable hard plastic.

1. General Safety
All airsoft guns must be treated the same as real firearms!
- When exiting the game area, all players must put their guns on safe and remove the magazine.
- Rifles being carried must either point upward or downward.
- No airsoft gun of any kind may be discharged in the safety area.
- All airsoft guns may only be tested in the designated testing area. Accordingly the marshal and safety officer must designate this area.
Airsoft rated eye protection must always be worn in the field of play and in the weapon testing area. Therefore, the glasses/goggles must be able to stand up to high impact shots at close range.
Eye protection may never be removed during play or at the testing range. Consequently, the player must leave the field if problems occur with the goggles or glasses, and they must fix them in the safe area.
No physical contact is allowed.
No knives or real firearms may be carried onto the playing field.
2. Muzzle Velocity (Feet per Second)
- Safety officers or the officers manning the chronograph must carry out all velocity tests using 0.2g BBs.
- There is a legal FPS limit for all airsoft weapons.
- Organizers chronograph all guns at games to ensure compliance.
- The FPS limit depends on the role and scenario type. In general each scenario will be designated as either CQB (close quarter battle) or non CQB.
- The FPS limits are as follows: CQB 350FPS (0.2g BB’s) (all rifles), NON-CQB -400FPS (0.2g BB’s).
- Dedicated Sniper Rifles have an FPS limit of 500FPS (0.2g BB’s) (minimum engagement range of 20m).
3. Game Area Safety
- Each player enters the game areas at their own risk.
- Scenarios often take place in hazardous environments, so each player is expected to note the various hazards in their surroundings.
- Each player is responsible for their own safety and wellbeing. Consequently should an injury occur, no game official will be held responsible.
- Each player must sign an indemnity for the above. Therefore no player may enter the game area without signing the indemnity document.
- Some areas have wildlife, insects, obstacles, objects and environment issues that could be dangerous.
